Lean Construction Development Programme

Working together with the CITB, client and partner companies, the supply chain and subject matter experts, LCI-UK has created the Lean Construction Development Programme (LCDP), an industry standard and competency framework. This framework not only trains the workforce but also helps to strategically align improvement projects with client and partner goals.

LCDP is designed to support long-term success and effectiveness for both organisations and individuals. By focusing on the needs of the client, the programme seeks to improve quality and productivity, while equipping staff and companies with Lean tools to navigate a competitive environment. This approach is essential for achieving strategic objectives and meeting industry goals.

Supported by BAM Nuttall as the delivery partner, and six other partner companies (Kier, Galliford Try, Costain, Skanska, Balfour Beatty and National Highways) LCDP was piloted across six Highways schemes with very positive results.

Key benefits of being a partner company

  • Collaboration is a key benefit of participating in the programme. LCDP empowers teams to deliver projects faster, cheaper, and better. Membership of the LCDP Operational Steering Groups fosters a strong culture of transparency, cooperation, and continuous improvement, and all members work towards the common goal of achieving Lean excellence in construction.
  • Comprehensive Training and Delivery: LCDP equips participants with the Lean tools and methodologies to improve productivity across projects and supply chains through a blended learning and delivery system combining online, in person and ‘on the job’ training.
  • High-Quality Learning Management: LCDP is managed through a ‘gold-standard’ multi-level Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring consistent delivery and easy tracking of project benefits at individual, scheme, and company levels.
  • Data-Driven Insights: The LMS allows in-house extraction of data, providing immediate snapshots of targeted vs. actual training, improvement projects, and benefits.
  • Evidencing: By participating in LCDP, companies and individuals alike can use the data available via the LMS to help evidence Lean maturity for industry assessments.

By incorporating LCI-UK’s CITB Lean standards, LCDP offers a potentially cost-neutral solution for companies looking to enhance efficiency and Lean capacity. With the opportunity for companies to reclaim CITB grant funding via 11 eligible standards at £140 per person, per standard.
