The purpose of this standard is to introduce key Lean concepts through a practical, workplace-based approach. Learners begin with a one-day workshop focused on customers, value, and waste, which lays the foundation for applying Lean thinking in their own work environment.
The core of the module is a series of on-the-job activities where learners apply Lean tools to a live improvement project. These include identifying internal and external customers (Voice of the Customer), mapping the process context (SIPOC), and analysing value and waste through supported and independent waste walks.
Online learning modules on Process Mapping and Value Stream Mapping provide just-in-time knowledge to support each activity. A Lean Coach guides and assesses learners throughout, offering practical support and feedback to ensure the tools are applied effectively and meaningfully. By the end of the module, learners will have used core Lean methods to analyse and improve a real process in their area of work, building confidence and competence in continuous improvement.
Predominantly practical learning, delivery is via a blend of in-person and online training and is formally assessed.
